I love rottweilers! I grew up with them and never understood breed discrimination. When a local man had his dog stolen recently, I checked the shelter websites daily looking for his dog. I don't know this man and never found his dog (but he did), there was just something leading me to the websites. While browsing I saw a female rottweiler, 5 yrs old, in Lancaster. Her eyes called out to me. I contacted the shelter and was told she was "out of time" and was sweet but people just don't adopt rottweilers.
I begged them to give her 1 more night!
The next day I drove up there and waited outside for them to open. I ran to the counter. I was #1 in line. I paid the fees and then looked to my right and saw her being led to the holding cage. My heart pounded. She was so skinny, her nose runny, and she looked scared.
When I finally got her I cried. I couldn't believe I was her last chance at life.
I nursed her back to health with 2 rounds of anti-biotics and finally had her healthy enough to spay. When I was at the vet with her she had her head in my lap, as she always does, and was staring up at me like she was thanking me for giving her a chance. A stranger said to me "wow this dog loves you. Look at her look at you. She knows who her mommy is." I replied "she knows who believed in her and didn't judge her based on her breed, she knows I saved her."
I named her Scout. Scout is a lady and meshed right into our home with our other 2 dogs, even one who is a 14 yr old female. It is as if she has lived here her whole life and she belongs her.
That is Scout's story. A beautiful, sweet, loyal lady who was discarded because people moved into one of the many places that don't allow rottweilers, and then was left to die because of the many people who are uneducated about the breed and don't adopt rottweilers.
